With so many coffee shops popping up across the city it’s nice to see some variety of places we can go. Funny enough heading to a cat café reminds me of being back in Japan, and surrounding myself with so many friendly cats. It’s an experience unlike any other. They’re also great for taking your kids if you have a busy household but don’t have your own cats or pets at home.
According to Google now, there’s only one cat café in Calgary for you to check out as Cafe & Mi is now closed. If you’re looking for a fun and relaxing date night activity, heading to Regal Cat Cafe will be your only option.
Regal Cat Cafe (Kensington)
303 10 St NW, Calgary, AB T2N 1V8
Lets start with the bustling community of Kensington, right on 10th Street you’ll find Regal Cat Cafe at 303 10 Street NW. This cafe was Calgary’s first cat cafe to open! They’ve been around for a number of years and not to our surprise they’ve been recently acquired by the Meow Foundation due to their work also helping connect cats with new homes. Outside of regular visiting hours, every Wednesday the cafe has an adoption night where you can go in and potentially find a kitty to adopt.
They typically will have 6 to 12 cats in a separate room from the cafe where you can relax, cuddle and play with the kitties. Every 2 or 3 weeks a new group of cats will arrive for you to continue enjoying a variety of feline friends.
How much does Regal Cat Cafe cost?
In terms of cost, a 30-minute visit is $10 per person. Secure your spot by making a reservation, you can find a link to that here.
What kind of coffee does Regal Cat Cafe offer?
For drink choices, you can choose from a variety of Fair Trade Organic coffees that are expertly roasted right here in Calgary. We’re not sure which roaster they work with but it’s a tasty cup of coffee. Also make sure to ask your barista for yours with a kitty or paw print to make it that much more special. They also offer season blends so be ask about what they have to offer.
If you’re more of a tea drinker they have teamed up with Tearrific to deliver delicious locally crafted teas. The Regal Cat Cafe offers four signature blends: Orange Tabby, Calico, Tortoiseshell, and Black Cat not to mention the usual classics like Chai, Peppermint, Sencha Green, Canadian Breakfast, & Earl Grey. If you're looking to take home teas home, they also offer 50g bags for sale, making for a great gift idea!
